Message from the Campaign Chair and Patrons

Let's move forward together

The pioneering spirit and inherent “can-do” attitude of New Zealanders mean that we are naturally suited to solving problems and creating new opportunities:  freedom from disease; children who are all healthy and well educated; a strong export-led economy; a quality of living that is truly world class; a confident, cohesive nation. These are all things that we ought to aspire to – not only for the benefit of New Zealand, but for human society at large.

Couple those ambitions with The University of Auckland, this country’s premier research-led university, and we open up a world of possibilities. As we can personally attest, the University has some wonderful staff and students, and it has already made a huge contribution to New Zealand and internationally. But it can do so much more, provided that it has the resources to attract and retain the best minds, and to support them in the creation of new knowledge. This is becoming more and more important as the worldwide competition for talent intensifies.
 
That’s why we’re appealing to you, as a person who believes that this country is capable of doing even more. We want you to help us and The University of Auckland to address some of the real issues facing the nation and the world.

The University has identified five key areas of societal need where it believes it can, with your support, take the lead and achieve great progress. We too believe that these are very important objectives for the University. They’re audacious. But when has that ever stopped us?

We’re hoping you too will help us lead the way.
