Sample bequest clauses
How you provide in your will for making a gift to the University of Auckland Foundation will depend on the type of gift you would like to make and your unique circumstances. By naming The University of Auckland Foundation as a beneficiary in your will, you can be sure that 100% of your funds will be used to support your specific programme or project- regardless of your choice of University of Auckland project or programme. We trust the following suggestions for the wording of your will will be helpful to your will-writer:
"I give and bequeath to The University of Auckland Foundation, a charitable trust registered with the New Zealand Charities Commission(CC10985),
$ (a specific dollar amount);
Or
(A specific percentage) of my estate;
Or
(The whole or a specific percentage) of the residue of my estate;
Or
(Describe precisely the item of property),
free from all duties and charges, as a contribution to University of Auckland Foundation to be applied for (XYZ) for which the receipt of the University of Auckland Foundation shall be sufficient discharge to my trustees."
Note: (XYZ) here could simply describe the faculty or academic discipline you identify with, the type of activity or the recipients who will benefit from your generosity. We recommend that for more specific wishes that (XYZ) becomes "The (donor or/family/friend name) Scholarship/Fellowship/Research Fund" with the supporting document (a statement of intentions) being held here at the University.
